How to Run a Zoning Analysis

Open the Zoning tab on a project, run an automated analysis, and turn the result into editable sections, approvals, exports, and Revit schedules.

The Zoning Analysis Canvas turns your project's zoning code into an editable, structured compliance document. You launch a guided run, the agent reads the relevant code, fills in the dimensional rules, and you get a canvas of section cards you can edit, approve, and export.

It's different from the Zoning Agent in chat. Chat answers questions one at a time. The canvas runs a full intake-driven analysis and persists the result on the project so you can come back to it, revise it, and turn it into deliverables.

  1. Open a project and click Zoning in the project sidebar.
  2. If no analysis exists yet, click Run zoning analysis to open the wizard.
  3. Step 1 — Address. Confirm or enter the project address. The agent uses this to figure out the jurisdiction.
  4. Step 2 — Code bundle. Pick the code bundle that matches the jurisdiction. If you don't see yours listed, request access from the Code Library.
  5. Step 3 — Intake form. A form appears in the dialog with project-specific questions (lot area, proposed use, etc.). Fill in what you know and skip what you don't — the agent works with partial input.
  6. Submit and follow the running status. The time required depends on the inputs and available sources; keep the dialog open while it is running.
  7. When it finishes, the canvas opens with section cards. Each card is a generated, cited write-up of one zoning topic.
  8. Edit titles or content inline. Click Save to persist your edits as a new revision.

What's on the canvas:

  • Section cards — One per zoning topic. Each one cites the code section it's based on.
  • Header badges — Show the zone code, zone type, and approval count. Stale-approval count flags sections you've edited since approving them.
  • Inputs used — Opens the form snapshot used for this analysis. Useful for audits and reproducing a run.
  • History — Every save is a revision. Open the drawer to browse and restore prior versions.
  • Run new analysis — Re-run from scratch. Replaces the current canvas; the old one stays in History.
  • Export — Download as CSV/XLSX once sections exist. Send to Revit is an experimental option where enabled.

Section approvals. Each section has an approval state. When you approve a section, you're saying "I've reviewed this and it's correct." If you later edit that section, the approval becomes stale — review the changes and re-approve to clear it. This lets reviewers see at a glance which parts of the analysis are still trusted.

Sending to Revit. Where enabled, the Export menu's experimental Revit option queues a schedule action. Connect the Revit plugin and execute the action in the intended document. Check the queued action and document before running it.

When something looks wrong:

  • A section is missing or empty: re-run the analysis. The agent may have lacked context or hit a flaky code-source.
  • A regulation is misquoted: edit the section inline and re-approve. Manual edits are first-class.
  • Form options are missing: the form fields come from the code bundle. If a field doesn't apply to your jurisdiction, leave it blank.
  • Analysis fails or stops progressing: read the status and error message before retrying. Check whether the current run is still active so you do not start another analysis unnecessarily.

Completion emails and guided help

While an analysis is processing, use Email me when it's done or the compact Email me control when offered. A confirmation indicates that an email was requested for the signed-in account. If registration fails, use the error message to retry; the notification request is separate from the analysis itself.

Open ArchiBoost Hints for help with the current screen. Choose Start guided tour for a walkthrough of the wizard or populated canvas. The canvas tour points out sections, inputs, history, export, a new analysis, and Save. Follow the tour's prompts; starting a tour does not approve sections or save edits for you.
