What Is the RUS Context and How Does It Get Used?

Context controls which codes, folders, and project memory Rus can use when generating an answer.

The Context bar is how you tell Rus what it is allowed to use for a chat. Context shapes retrieval, influences the citations you get back, and keeps answers tied to the right project sources.

The main context options are:

  • Code bundle: Anchors the answer to the right code family and year.
  • Project folders: Lets Rus search the PDFs stored under the current project's Documents area.
  • Firm data: Lets Rus search office-wide standards, templates, and reusable reference material.
  • Project Memory: Pulls from the saved project summary and high-level project information.
  1. Pick a code bundle when the question depends on a specific code edition or jurisdiction.
  2. Add project folders when the answer should reflect project-specific drawings, specs, or reports.
  3. Add firm data when office standards or reusable internal knowledge should influence the answer.
  4. Leave Project Memory on when the project's saved summary is relevant background.

If a folder is missing from selection or looks unavailable, the usual reasons are simple: the folder has no files yet, the files are still processing, or the folder is not ready for chat use.

Choose a bundle in other workflows

Code selection also appears when you create a calculator and when you run a zoning analysis. Check the jurisdiction, edition, and included sources in each workflow; choosing a bundle for one chat does not replace checking the bundle used by a calculator or analysis.

Use Code Library to inspect available bundles and request access. A municipal bundle is relevant to local zoning requirements, while building-code questions need the applicable building-code sources. See Calculators for building inputs and Zoning analysis for its intake flow.
